This project was completed as part of my second year animation portfolio at UJ. It is trailer for a fictitious science film inspired by anime of the 80s and 90s. All animation was done in Blender, After Effects, and Photoshop.

I was inspired by 90s anime that focused on machines, vehicles and space exploration. I tried to capture the visual style of the time through the use of bloom, high contrast highlights and shadows, limited colour palettes and stylistic elements such as light trails like in Akira.

I wanted to start off with the wonder and mystery of finding an alien spacecraft. Suddenly the pace changes and it feels like the viewer is thrust into a violent scenario you cannot predict, just like the main character is in the story. I wanted to focus on excitement and blood pumping action as the main draws for the film.
